SECURITY

What can I do to ensure the security of my password?

Change your password regularly. To do so, go to the Login screen and click on the "Forgot your Password" link. On the next screen, type in your User ID, select and answer our Security Validation Question and select "Continue." On the next screen you will be asked to choose a new password and enter it in the appropriate fields. Click "Continue." If successful, you will then see a confirmation message; you can begin using your new password. The same password should not be used for different Web site, applications or services, particularly when they relate to different entities.

How can I be sure this Web site is secure?

Make sure you check the authenticity of any financial institution's Web site by comparing the URL and the financial institution's name in its digital certificate or by observing the indicators provided by an extended validation certificate. When you login to a secure site, you should check that the Web address changes from http:// to https:// and a security icon that looks like a lock or key appears; this demonstrates that authentication and encryption is in place.

What can I do to ensure my privacy?

When you choose your User ID and Password, do not use the same ID and Password that you use for another unit in The Global Carbon Bank or another firm. Do not use an ID or Password that could easily be guessed, such as telephone numbers, birthdays or names (yours, family, etc.) You should also avoid using the same password for accessing other Web sites or online services. Always select "No" if your browser asks you if you want to store your Password. Always "log out" and close your Web browser before walking away from your computer.

What security measures are in place to keep my information secure?

To help protect your confidential information, we have created multiple levels of security:

  • You will create a unique User ID and Password that must be input each time you log on.
  • No Global Carbon Bank employee should ever ask you for your Password; if you receive such a request (or other message prompting you to disclose such personal information over email) do not respond, as it may be fraudulent.
  • For your own protection, keep your Password confidential and do not share it with anyone.
  • The Global Carbon Bank’s secure services use 128-bit encryption technology.
  • Portfolio View and Messaging uses the same encryption technology used by The Global Carbon Bank, and its affiliates, for handling financial transactions on the Internet.
  • Neither your name nor your identity is maintained in our online system.
  • The minimal information we store is held in a separate system to our financial system.

What else can I do to ensure my security?

There are steps you should take to protect your personal computer from security breaches. The following tips should be followed not only when visiting The Global Carbon Bank, but any time you connect to the Internet:

  • Install anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall software on your personal computer, particularly when you are linked via broadband connections, digital subscriber lines or cable modems.
  • Update the anti-virus and firewall products with security patches or newer versions on a regular basis.
  • Remove file and printer sharing on your computer, especially when you have internet access via cable modems, broadband connections or similar set-ups.
  • Make regular backup of critical data.
  • Consider the use of encryption technology to protect highly sensitive data.
  • Do not install software or run programs of unknown origin.
  • Never disclose your personal information (e.g. information on identity card or passport, addresses, or bank accounts) to any persons failing to prove their identities or any doubtful Web sites. You should never disclose your passwords to anyone.
  • Do not access ebanking services through public or shared computers (e.g. at cyber cafés or public libraries).
  • Log off the online session and turn off the computer when not in use.

Does the system prompt me to change my Password regularly for added security? Can I change my Password if I believe it might be compromised?

We recommend that you change your Password on a regular basis for added security; however, the system does not automatically require you to change your Password on a regular basis. Note that you can manually change it yourself whenever you like. To do so, go to the Login screen and click on the “Forgot your Password” link. At the next screen, type in your User ID, select and answer our Security Validation Question and select Continue. On the next screen you will be asked to choose a new password and enter it in the appropriate fields. Click “Continue.” If successful, you will then see a confirmation message; you can begin using your new Password immediately.

How do I exit the secure area?

Always "Log Out" when you are ready to leave the secure area of The Global Carbon Bank Web site and always close your Web browser before walking away from your computer.
